The Best Diamonds to Gift This Festive Season!

A Coastal Karnataka Guide to Dasara, Deepavali, and the Art of Giving Brilliance

By Trayi Jewellers · 5 min read

Across India, the festive season arrives with lamps, processions, and the quiet ritual of gifting something precious. But along the Arabian Sea in coastal Karnataka, Dasara and Deepavali carry a flavour entirely their own — nine nights of temple processions that spill into the streets, followed, just weeks later, by a city turned into a constellation of lamps. In Mangaluru, both festivals share one instinct: to mark the season with something that catches the light and lasts. Increasingly, that something is a diamond.

Dasara in Coastal Karnataka: A City Becomes a Procession

Mangaluru's Dasara is unlike any other. At its heart is the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra, consecrated in 1912 by the social reformer Narayana Guru. Every year, the temple's nine-day Navaratri & Mangaluru Dasara Mahotsava transforms its golden gopuram into the city's most photographed sight, as idols of Sharada Devi and the Nava Durgas are worshipped through the nights.

A few streets away, Mangaluru's Car Street holds its own century-old tradition — the Sarvajanika Sri Sharada Mahotsava, which celebrated its centenary in 2022. A community that has gathered for over a hundred years installs its own towering Sharada idol, devotion that mirrors the same spirit lighting up Kudroli each Navaratri.

On Vijayadashami, these celebrations converge into the city-wide Mangaluru Dasara procession — tableaux, drummers, and crowds filling the streets late into the night. Across Karnataka, Vijayadashami has long been considered an auspicious day for new beginnings — and for bringing something new, and valuable, into the home.

Deepavali on the Coast: Lamps, Lakshmi, and the Sea

If Dasara belongs to the streets, Deepavali belongs to the home. Coastal Karnataka greets the festival before sunrise with the customary Naraka Chaturdashi oil bath, before rows of lamps are lit through the evening. Lakshmi Puja welcomes prosperity into the house, and Bali Padyami closes the festival with its own quiet rituals of gratitude. What makes a Mangaluru Deepavali distinct is its backdrop — a working harbour city on the Arabian Sea, where the glow of a thousand lamps meets the horizon.

And then come the sparklers — the small, bright rituals of childhood that still animate every Deepavali evening.

Why a Diamond Belongs in This Season

Both festivals are, at their core, celebrations of light. A diamond doesn't just catch that light — cut correctly, it multiplies it, the same way a single lamp multiplies into a thousand during Deepavali.

And because today's IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds are chemically, optically and physically identical to mined stones at a fraction of the cost per carat, this festive season makes it possible to gift more brilliance than ever — a larger stone, a higher clarity, a better colour grade.

This is why, every Dasara and Deepavali, more of Mangaluru turns to Trayi's festive catalog first — not just for a diamond, but for the right diamond: hand-picked LimeLight pieces curated for the season, from statement pieces for Vijayadashami to everyday pendants for Lakshmi Puja.

And when a catalog page isn't enough, our 2nd Floor boutique at Bharath Mall, Bejai is where the festive season truly comes alive — walk in any evening through Dasara or Deepavali to find the doors open, the lights on, and a consultant ready to help you choose a piece worth the occasion.

Two pieces from this year's collection feel made for the season. For Dasara's temple mornings and family visits, the Shankha Diamond Mangalsutra draws on one of the most auspicious symbols in Hindu tradition — the conch shell — set in 18kt gold with VS-EF clarity diamonds, a quietly traditional choice for Navaratri and Vijayadashami alike. For Deepavali evenings, the Eternal Classic Round Diamond Pendant does exactly what its name promises: a classic round diamond solitaire that catches the light of every lamp in the room, simple enough for daily wear long after the festival ends.

A diamond bought elsewhere is still a diamond. A diamond bought at Trayi — IGI-certified, backed by lifetime buyback, and set in hallmarked gold — is one you can gift with complete confidence, this festive season and every one after.
